How Big Should Your Logo Be,
Anyway?

The size of your logo should be determined primarily by the purpose of the advertising.

In direct response advertising, your company's name should usually be small, no bigger than the body copy. The success of a direct response advertisement depends largely on the headline and how strongly it appeals to the reader's needs and desires.

The exception: When your company's name is already well known and highly regarded, making it larger than the body copy may make the headline more believable, and therefore, increase returns.

In image/brand advertising, the purpose is to increase awareness of your company's name and improve the attitude of the target audience toward the company. In this case, your logo should be as big-or nearly as big-as the headline type.

Get Higher Returns From Your Mailings

Higher returns from business-addressed mail result when the mail is received on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. A business person has much more mail to get through on Monday, so less time will be devoted to your mail piece.

On Fridays, business people are anxious to finish up and less likely to be receptive to your mail piece.

Home mailings received on Friday or Saturday are most fruitful, since the recipients have more time to devote to their mail.

Make Sure Your Stuff Gets Read!

Did you know that for 10 point type, the maximum width for the eye to absorb everything in a single line is about 2.75"? Use body copy wider than that and you run the risk of the eye getting tired as it moves from the end of one line to the beginning of the next. Tired eyes contribute to fall off in readership. (You can go wider if your point size increases.)
